Most of us desire to read as many newspapers as possible but are not able to do so for many reasons. But now with the help of a newly developed technology anyone can browse up to 10 newspapers on a cellular phone.
Launched in Hyderabad, the first ever M-Paper enables one to read 10 complete English newspapers from India through Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled telephone instruments.
The new technology makes it possible for a subscriber to read the selected newspaper by clicking on news items with the help of pen drive. One can go through news stories column by column in a similar way while reading an electronic or online newspaper.
The new technology is all set to be a tremendous boon for individuals who have to rely on news reports in daily life.
A leader in providing space for the media on the web, Hyderabad-based Pressmart and IMI Mobile Limited, jointly inaugurated the novel facility whereby one can read the leading newspapers on the mobile handset.
“It’s the first of its kind in India, internationally also only a part of newspapers is available but here the whole newspaper is being made available and that is unique,” said A R Vishwanath, Chief Executive Officer, IMI Mobile Ltd., Hyderabad.
According to Sanjiv Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Pressmart, Pressmart accesses the content of the newspaper from the content providers in the form of PDF images.
Further, it is modulated and transferred to IMImobile servers and beamed via the mobile devices from their customers’ bases, which includes Airtel, Tata, Reliance and others.
The companies also plan to reach Indian Diaspora internationally.
“The idea is to reach Indian diaspora whether in India or outside. Pressmart is focusing on media spaces. We take pre-press releases and repurpose the same pages for an e-version, which is on browsers. And, that is Pressmart ’s capability in repurposing the content,” said Sanjiv.
Pressmart has a global presence and is equipped to deliver mobile applications and services to any customer in the world from its data centres.
Soon 30 regional languages and English newspapers will be available for Indian customers and 200 for overseas users.
Initially, the access to this M-paper facility will be free for a limited period, which could be availed later in exchange of a nominal subscription fee.
